​Alagappa University, established in 1985 by an Act of the Tamil Nadu State Legislature, is a public institution located in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, India. The university originated from Alagappa Arts College, founded in 1947 by philanthropist Dr. Alagappa Chettiar. Initially formed as a unitary institution, it transitioned to an affiliating university in 2002, extending its jurisdiction over arts and science colleges in the Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga districts.
